Actress Became National Phenomenon in Iran Thanks to 10-year-old K-drama?

Recently, KBS’s historical drama “The King of Legend” has been airing on Iranian national broadcasting, and it has been receiving a warm response from local fans. Particularly, there are reports that Lee Se-eun’s popularity is skyrocketing as she plays the role of female lead Wi Hong-ran.

In particular, “The King of Legend” was broadcast in 2010 and received high praise as an anticipated work that opens the gate to a new area in Korean historical dramas.

At that time, the drama also received much love from domestic fans. Lee Se-eun, who played the role of Wi Hong-ran, the queen consort of King Geunchogo (played by Kam Woo-sung), received great acclaim for her intense character and stable acting, gaining significant popularity.

“The King of Legend” is currently being broadcast again on Iranian national television after about 13 years, capturing nationwide popularity. 

As a result, many international fans are showing interest in the 10-year-old series as well as Lee Se-eun. Now a “national phenomenon” in Iran, Lee Se-eun is seeing huge rises in her social media followers, and expectations are rising for her future endeavors.

Regarding the fact that she is now a “national phenomenon” in Iran, Lee Se-eun expressed her thoughts, saying, “I could feel the passionate response of Iranian fans and their love for Korean historical dramas and the character Wi Hong-ran. Honestly, I was surprised at first. With this interest and support, I will show more active activities.”

Meanwhile, Lee Se-eun is set to appear in the tvN drama “Free Doctor M” (tentative title), which will be broadcast on January 19.
