Ahn Bo-hyun is a South Korean actor, model, and television personality. He began his entertainment career as a model before transitioning to acting in 2014 and has since gained recognition for his versatile performances in television dramas and films. Ahn achieved widespread acclaim for his role in Itaewon Class and has since starred in leading roles in both domestic and international productions.

Early Life and Education

Ahn Bo-hyun was born on May 16, 1988, in Busan, South Korea. He attended Busan Sports High School, where he was an amateur boxer and won a gold medal in national competition. Before entering the entertainment industry, he initially pursued sports, showcasing his athletic background.

He later studied at Daekyeung University’s Department of Modelling, preparing for a career in the public eye. Prior to acting, Ahn debuted as a model in 2007, walking in fashion shows and appearing in editorial work.

Modelling and Acting Debut (2007–2014)

Ahn began his career as a model, gaining experience in runway and print work beginning in 2007. After several years in the fashion industry, he transitioned to acting and made his on-screen debut in the television drama Golden Cross in 2014, followed by his first film role in Hiya.

Breakthrough and Rising Fame (2016–2020)

In 2016, Ahn appeared in the globally popular series Descendants of the Sun, where he played First Sergeant Im Gwang-nam, gaining early recognition among drama audiences.

His major breakthrough came in 2020 with the hit JTBC series Itaewon Class, in which he portrayed Jang Geun-won, the arrogant heir to a conglomerate. This role brought him widespread popularity and critical attention, solidifying his status as a leading actor in Korean drama.

Leading Roles and Recent Work (2021–Present)

Following Itaewon Class, Ahn has taken on prominent roles in both television and streaming series. He starred as Jeon Pil-do in the Netflix thriller My Name (2021), a crime drama that showcased his action and dramatic range. He also appeared in Yumi’s Cells (2021–2022), Military Prosecutor Doberman (2022), and See You in My 19th Life (2023), where his performances were praised for depth and versatility.

In 2024, he starred in Flex X Cop, expanding his film repertoire beyond television. He is also confirmed to star in the upcoming historical action drama God’s Beads (2026), marking his continued presence in major television productions.

In recognition of his craft, Ahn won the Excellence Award, Actor in an OTT Drama at the 8th APAN Star Awards in 2022 for his performances in My Name and Yumi’s Cells.

Relationship

In August 2023, Ahn Bo-hyun’s agency confirmed that he was in a relationship with Jisoo, a member of the South Korean girl group BLACKPINK, after reports from Korean media. The relationship attracted significant public attention due to both individuals’ high profiles in the entertainment industry.

However, in October 2023, both agencies announced that the couple had amicably ended their relationship, citing conflicting schedules and work commitments as the primary reason. Since then, Ahn Bo-hyun has not publicly confirmed any new romantic relationships and continues to keep his personal life private.
