Will HyunA’s Career Falter with Yong Jun-hyung Marriage?

HyunA will hold her wedding with Yong Jun-hyung this October

Singer HyunA stands at the center of attention both professionally and personally as she approaches her October wedding with singer Yong Jun-hyung. Concerns have been raised that her well-established solo career might be shaken, especially since Yong Jun-hyung remains under scrutiny due to his involvement in the Burning Sun scandal.

HyunA publicly revealed her relationship with Yong Jun-hyung on social media in January, leading to mixed reactions from fans and the public. On July 8, she announced their October wedding. HyunA’s agency, At Area, told OSEN, “HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung have promised to marry each other after supporting each other through difficult times. The ceremony will take place in October with close friends and family.” Yong Jun-hyung’s agency, Blackmade, confirmed the wedding, stating that the couple would marry in a private outdoor ceremony on October 11 at Samcheonggak, Seoul, with only close family and friends in attendance.

Despite their open relationship, the news of their marriage has caused a significant stir. Many continue to oppose HyunA’s relationship with Yong Jun-hyung due to his admission in 2019 of viewing illegal videos shared by singer Jung Joon-young, which led to his departure from his group. The announcement of their marriage has intensified negative reactions.

Amidst this, it was announced on the 19th by a ticket sales agency that HyunA’s solo North American concert tour scheduled for August in Dallas, Houston, New York, Toronto, Chicago, LA, and Seattle, has been canceled. HyunA had previously shared a video on her official YouTube channel announcing the ‘HyunA – My Attitude Tour 2024 in North America with GroovyRoom & MIRANI,’ but all related posts and videos have since been deleted.

An overseas media outlet suggested that low ticket sales were the reason for the cancellation. It’s not uncommon for international concerts to be canceled due to poor ticket sales. However, some speculate that the announcement of her marriage to Yong Jun-hyung may have impacted ticket sales.

In May, BBC News Korea released a documentary titled “Burning Sun: The Story of Women Who Exposed K-pop Stars’ Secret Chatrooms,” raising global awareness about the Burning Sun scandal. This increased awareness might have affected HyunA’s concert sales.

Additionally, HyunA recently erased all traces of her ex-boyfriend, singer DAWN, from her social media. HyunA and DAWN publicly announced their relationship in 2018 and dated for six years. Although DAWN proposed in 2022, the couple broke up in November that year. Despite initially agreeing not to delete each other’s photos, both eventually did so after HyunA announced her wedding with Yong Jun-hyung. DAWN removed her photos a week after the announcement, and on the 19th, HyunA also deleted all memories of DAWN from her social media.
