aespa’s “Supernova” MV Receives Mixed Reaction for “Suicide Homage” Scene
A topic recently pointed out that a scene from aespa’s “Supernova” MV took inspiration from a suicide image, drawing attention.
On May 14, a topic about aespa’s “Supernova” MV was published on the Korean forum “theqoo”, drawing massive attention.
In particular, the topic mentioned the first scene in the MV, where Karina fell on a car in front of a building. According to the topic’s author, this scene pays homage to an image called “the most beautiful suicide in the world”, which captures 23-year-old Evelyn McHale who jumped to her death from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building.

The photo, showing Evelyn McHale looking extremely graceful even as she fell 86 floors onto a car, eventually went viral across the world.
As Karina’s scene was pointed out be be “suicide homage”, netizens expressed mixed reactions. Below are some of their comments:
