7 Netflix and Disney+ dramas to be released in the second half of 2023

Below are some highly-anticipated works to be released in the second half of 2023 on OTT platforms Netflix and Disney+.

◆ Netflix

1. D.P. season 2

D.P.” tells the story of a team of Korean military police with the mission to catch deserters.

In season 1, actors Jung Hae In, Koo Kyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun, Son Suk Ku, Shin Seung Ho and Cho Hyun Chul appeared and performed enthusiastically. In season 2, aside from Jung Hae In, Koo Kyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun and Son Suk Ku, Ji Jin Hee and Kim Ji Hyun will newly join. Season 2 is scheduled to be released on July 28th.

2. Mask Girl

Mask Girl” tells the story of an ordinary office worker with an appearance complex, who covers her face with a mask as she works as an Internet BJ at night. However, she later gets caught up in an unintended incident.

In “Mask Girl”, Nana takes on the role of female lead Kim Mo Mi in her youth, after achieving the appearance she dreamt of through plastic surgery. Meanwhile, actress Go Hyun Jung assumes the role of Kim Mo Mi later on in life, who ended up in prison after being caught up in an incident.

The drama “Mask Girl” is scheduled to be released on August 18th.

3. Doona!

“Doona!” is a drama based on Min Song Ah’s work “The Girl Downstairs”, which has been serialized on Naver since July 2019. It depicts the story of the ordinary college student Lee Won Jun (Yang Se Jong) and his meeting with Lee Doona (Suzy), who retired after leaving behind her glamorous Kpop idol days and become his housemate. The drama will be released on Netflix in the fourth quarter of 2023.

4. Sweet Home season 2

Sweet Home“, which is based on a webtoon of the same name, tells a bizarre and shocking story of a secluded high school student who moves to live alone in an old apartment after suffering from school violence and the death of his family.

Major cast members such as Song Kang, Lee Jin Wook, Lee Si Young, Go Min Si and Park Gyu Young, who appeared in season 1, will continue their performances in season 2, while Jinyoung and Oh Jung Se will join as new cast members. Season 2 of the “Sweet Home” series will be unveiled in the second half of this year, and season 3 will be released in 2024.

◆ Disney+

1. Moving

Starring Jo In Sung, Han Hyo Joo, Ryu Seung Ryong, Ryoo Seung Bum, Cha Tae Hyun, Kim Sung Kyun, Kim Hee Won, Go Youn Jung, Kim Shin Rok and Park Hee Soon, “Moving” is a drama based on Kang Full’s webtoon which was serialized in 2015. “Moving” is a supernatural drama that deals with three teenage high school students and their parents, who discover their super powers. “Moving” will have a total of 20 episodes and will be released on Disney+ on August 9th.

2. Vigilante

“Vigilante” revolves around Kim Ji Yong, a student at the police academy who lost his mother at the hand of a local gangster when he was young. He becomes a vigilante and kills criminals. Actor Nam Joo Hyuk plays the main character Kim Ji Yong/Vigilante, while Lee Joon Hyuk transforms into Cho Kang Ok, the planner who helps Vigilante.

On the other hand, Yoo Ji Tae takes on the role of Cho Heon, head of the regional investigation unit, who sought to catch Vigilante., and Kim So Jin plays Choi Mi Ryeo, a reporter who gathers news materials about Vigilante.

3. The Worst of Evil

Set in the 1990s, “The Worst of Evil” follows undercover police investigators who infiltrate a massive criminal organization responsible for the illegal drug trade between Korea, China and Japan.

Actor Ji Chang Wook was cast as Park Joon Mo, a police officer who infiltrates a gang to investigate drugs. Actor Wi Ha Joon plays Jung Gi Cheol, the leader of a criminal organization, while actress Im Se Mi takes on the role of Yoo Eui Jung, Park Joon Mo’s wife who is a narcotics officer.
