From Lee Jun Ho to Park Hyung Sik, various male Kpop idols are appearing on the small screen in 2023.
Lee Jun Ho
In 2023, Lee Jun Ho returns with the role of Gu Won, the male lead of hit drama series “King the Land”. Initially, Gu Won is a rather cold and difficult person, but with the appearance of female lead Sa Rang (Yoona), his personality seems to soften.
As the couple went from bickering to dating, Lee Jun Ho also successfully wooed the audience with his gentleman charms and handsome appearance. Furthermore, the idol-actor’s acting skills, humor, and impressive chemistry with Yoona earn him a lot of praise on various online forums.
Overall, Lee Jun Ho did earn huge popularity and success with the role of Gu Won. However, compared to his previous works, especially last year’s “The Red Sleeve”, Gu Won is not a challenging character.
Ok Taecyeon
Alongside Lee Jun Ho, another member of 2PM, Ok Taecyeon, also returned to the small screen in 2023. In particular, he assumes the role of half-vampire Sun Woo Hyeol in “Heartbeat.”
Despite always wanting to become fully human, circumstances caused Woo Yeol to miss his chance and had no choice but to continue living as a vampire. In fact, he somehow started to live with Joo In Hae (Won Ji An), a coldhearted woman. Their contrasting personalities often lead to funny and awkward situations that make the viewers laugh.
In general, Taecyeon’s performance as Sun Woo Hyeol is undoubtedly entertaining, as he successfully portrayed the naive and foolish side of a vampire attempting to reintegrate into society.
However, the drama itself is lacking in terms of writing, and the chemistry is not too explosive, causing “Heartbeat” to lose its momentum after a few episodes.
Park Hyung Sik
While a talented idol-turned-actor, Park Hyung Sik’s return as male lead Lee Hwan in “Our Blooming Youth” failed to live up to expectations. In particular, the drama tells the story of a crown prince who is under a curse and a girl accused of murdering her family.
Because the plot of “Our Blooming Youth” is too cliché and predictable, Park Hyung Sik had a hard time standing out despite his great efforts. Compared to his previous works, such as “Happiness”, the actor’s role boasts less depth.
Hopefully, Park Hyung Sik can find a more suitable role in the future and rise to higher ranks.
