Min Hee-jin: Gfriend’s Disbandment Has Nothing to Do with Me

CEO Min Hee-jin of NewJeans’ agency, ADOR, defended herself against accusations related to the disbandment of Gfriend.

On the afternoon of April 25, CEO Min Hee-jin held an urgent press conference to announce her official position regarding the ongoing ADOR-HYBE feud.

Here, the CEO mentioned rumors of her “stealing trainees” from Gfriend’s agency, Source Music, leading to the company’s heavy debts and having to disband Gfriend.

In particular, Min Hee-jin emphasized, “The process of selecting trainees for the first girl group at HYBE was problematic from the start. There was a group called Gfriend at Source Music. The disbandment of Gfriend has nothing to do with me. I don’t care about others. I only care about my work.”

The ADOR CEO further explained, “There was a need to create a female label. In a situation where we needed to create a girl group quickly, Chairman Bang suggested, ‘Here are some prepared trainees’. At first, I honestly didn’t like it. I said I didn’t like it, but because they kept suggesting it, I wanted to be cooperative. I thought I should try to fit in as much as possible.”

Min Hee-jin also mentioned disagreements with HYBE regarding HYBE’s 1st girl group, saying that it was supposed to be NewJeans debuting first, only to be preceded by LE SSERAFIM

“They called me to the meeting room and said that the first HYBE girl group should be the next Source Music girl group. I was notified that the group will have Sakura and Kim Chaewon. At first, NewJeans was supposed to be HYBE’s first girl group, but this ended up not working out, and they later changed the project into Min Hee-jin girl group”, she shared

Min Hee-jin also complained about the many injustices she suffered under HYBE, saying, “What I couldn’t believe is that Park Ji-won (HYBE’s CEO) asked me to not promote Newjeans until LE SSERAFIM’s debut”, adding “He said people would mistake them (LE SSERAFIM) for Min Hee-jin’s girl group. Didn’t we already accept the kids (NewJeans members)? I couldn’t give up on that”.

Previously, HYBE began an audit after suspecting that CEO Min Hee-jin and ADOR executive A were attempting to seizing management rights over ADOR and become independent. It is reported that the HYBE audit team visited ADOR’s management work area and recovered the company’s computer assets.

According to the interim audit results announced by HYBE on the morning of April 25, HYBE confirmed that a plan to seize management rights was established, led by the CEO of ADOR and secured physical evidence. An ADOR executive also admitted to submitting information assets containing contacts with investors as evidence and creating HYBE attack documents for this purpose.
