Man In His 60s Sentenced To 8 Months In Prison For Stalking 15-year-old Female Singer

He stalked her for 6 months and even went to her school.

The man in his 60s, A, who stalked singer Oh Yu-jin and called her grandmother several times received a suspended prison sentence. Oh Yu-jin previously won the third-place in the final ranking of hit program “Miss Trot 3,” and rose to stardom thanks to this.

On the 30th of last month, Kim Do-hyung, a senior judge at the Jinju Branch Criminal Chamber 3 of the Changwon District Court, sentenced A to eight months in prison and two years of probation, and ordered a 40-hour stalking prevention lecture and a restriction on the victim.

Previously, A continued stalking Oh Yu-jin from May to November last year, claiming Oh as his daughter. He even came to her school and called her grandmother several times. In addition, A seriously damaged Oh’s reputation by leaving 50 to 60 comments on YouTube, such as “Where are biological parents such as Oh Yu-jin’s mom and dad?”, to spread false information that he was her real father.

On SBS’s current affairs/culture program ‘Curious Stories Y’, A appeared and made an absurd claim that “Oh Yu-jin’s appearance, hand shape, teeth, bone structure, and singing style are similar to mine,” adding, “I’m sure she’s my daughter.”

Regarding him visiting the school, he said, “I wanted to watch from afar how much she looked like me,” and added, “I called her name once and she answered. She passed by, and I just cried without realizing it. I was going crazy thinking that a person could look like me like this.”

Regarding the reason for the sentence, Chief Judge Kim Do-hyung said, “A recognized the victim as his daughter without a reasonable basis, and we did not accept the claim that he had no purpose of slander against the victim.”

He also pointed out that “A did not reflect on his wrongdoings and that the victim suffered mental pain due to his actions such as requesting a genetic test from her.”

Prior to this, the prosecution demanded a one-year prison term and an order for A to complete a stalking treatment program in consideration of the number of crimes committed by him to the young victim and the mental pain suffered by the victim and her family.

Meanwhile, as it is known that A called Oh Yu-jin’s grandmother several times and caused anxiety and fear to her family, voices are rising that not only celebrities but also their families should be protected from the danger of stalking.
