Writer Kim Eun Sook “Lee Byung Hun couldn’t say the lines were cheesy, so he beat around the bush”

Writer Kim Eun Sook mentioned Lee Byung Hun, who appeared in “Mr. Sunshine”.

Drama writer Kim Eun Sook appeared as a guest in episode 100 of KBS Happy FM’s “Song Jin Woo’s Brave Radio”, which aired on August 15th.

To the reaction that the lines were cheesy, Kim Eun Sook caused laughter by saying, “This is the way of speaking I usually use. The actors sometimes say it’s cheesy, but they have to do it as they get paid.”

Lee Byung Hun also contacted Kim Eun Sook after reading the script for “Mr. Sunshine”. Kim Eun Sook said, “He’s a very decent person. He couldn’t say it was cheesy, so he beat around the bush. He’s a really great person.”

Kim Eun Sook, who mainly wrote romantic comedies, challenged period drama with “Mr. Sunshine”. Kim Eun Sook recalled, “It’s a plan I had 16 years ago. I tried to cast actors, but at that time, there was only the Japanese market. When I planned the story of the independence movement, everyone said ‘Crazy’ and didn’t invest.”

She added, “Since ‘Guardian: The Lonely and Great God’ succeeded, I thought 6 out of 10 people would agree. I fixed the plan and fortunately it went well. I usually value patriotism, so I wanted to try a patriotic drama.

DJ Song Jin Woo played the role of “Hyung Ki”, a Korean man who works as a translator in the Japanese legation, in “Mr. Sunshine”. Song Jin Woo, who has a Japanese wife, confessed, “My wife helped me a lot. From a Japanese person’s perspective, she was so impressed and told me that it was a good drama.”
