Writer Kim Eun-hee Confirms ‘Signal’ Season 2 Production

A sequel to 'Signal' is in the works. This was officially announced by writer Kim Eun-hee and producer Jang Won-seok.

Writer Kim Eun-hee and Jang Won-seok attended the event ‘The Power of K-Contents: What’s the Secret of the Korean Film and Drama Craze? Meetings with Writers, Actors, and Producers’ held in Rome, Italy, on March 13th local time.

Kim and Jang are preparing for their next project together. During the event, Jang announced, “We are preparing ‘Signal’ Season 2 with writer Kim.” This formalizes the plan for the sequel.

Signal

Kim has consistently expressed her willingness to produce ‘Signal’ Season 2. In an interview with the press in 2021, she said, “There are undoubtedly stories left untold in ‘Signal,’ so I have a strong desire and will to make ‘Signal 2’ in any way possible. I want to show it before I retire, no matter what.”

At the event, Kim and Jang jointly emphasized the fierce competition in the Korean content market as a key success factor. Kim mentioned, “I naturally sit in front of my laptop when I wake up in the morning, and even after eating, I return to it.”

She added, “Although this position is honorable, I feel uneasy because I’m not writing a script. It’s because I think I might lose in the competition. I think such fierceness has become a driving force.”

Jang also agreed, saying, “Korea is a small country, so the competition is fierce. Only works that have overcome tremendous competition are being made into dramas and movies.”

Signal,’ which aired in 2016, depicted the process of current and past detectives connected by urgent signals (radio transmissions) from the past uncovering old unsolved cases. It recorded a peak viewer rating of 12.5%.
