Will Lee Sun-kyun Be Punished For Drug Use? Lawyers Explain, “Only When Suspect’s Intent Is Proved”
Lee Sun-kyun’s drug investigation made a turn with his statement of taking drugs without knowing
Lee Sun-kyun attended the second police summons for his drug allegations on November 4th and was questioned for three hours. Lawyer Son Su-ho added, “Drug crimes require intent, so in cases where one is deceived and unintentionally does it, they won’t be punished.”
Lawyer Kim explained, “For example, in places like clubs, it is common for people to offer drinks to their business partners. If one unknowingly drinks something that has been secretly mixed with drugs, they cannot be held guilty”, adding “Even if someone was forcibly injected with drugs and could not resist, it is difficult to prosecute the case.”
The question is whether Lee Sun-kyun really took drugs. Both Lee Sun-kyun and the police are silent regarding the matter. In this regard, an official from the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s Drug Crime Investigation Division said, “It is not yet the stage to confirm it.”
Lawyer Kim continued, “Testimonies of witnesses may vary. However, if no one can prove that they saw Lee Sun-kyun directly take drugs, the actor cannot be considered guilty since no drug ingredients are detected in his hair”.
Meanwhile, Lee Sun-kyun has been accused of having administered drugs at the residence of hostess bar director A in Gangnam, Seoul. The police conducted a simple drug test during the first summons and Lee Sun-kyun tested negative. The precise examination of hair and urine from the National Forensic Service also came out with a “negative” result. Based on the test results, the police confirmed that Lee Sun-kyun had not taken drugs for the past 8-10 months.
However, the police suspected the reason A blackmailed Lee Sun-kyun for 300 million won, so they plan to continue the investigation with the possibility that the actor might have taken drugs more than 10 months ago. They are also expected to summon Lee Sun-kyun for the third time after receiving the results of examinations on other body hair and cell phone forensics.
