Wi Ha Joon has been known to the viewers of Korean dramas thanks to his participation in different series such as Goodbye Mr. Black (2016), My Golden Life (2017), Romance Is a Bonus Book (2019)… but until Squid Game, the actor’s popularity has officially gone beyond Korea. Many viewers must have fallen for Wi Ha Joon since the first moment he appeared in Squid Game as a cop.
Thanks to his handsome appearance, along with a toned and muscular body, Wi Ha Joon is currently having his busiest days ever. He is filming tvN’s drama “Bad and Crazy” right after finishing “Midnight and Shark: The Beginning” and “Squid Game”. In a recent interview, the 1991-born actor opened up about himself and shared some honest thoughts about his participation in Squid Game.
Before acting, Wi Ha Joon was famous for his passion for fitness and training. He revealed:
“I’ve been building muscle by doing workouts since I was in the military. I used to go to the gym 5 days a week to practice, but now I work out at home due to the pandemic.“
Regarding Squid Game, Wi Ha Joon shared he was impressed with the script:
“I read the script in the blink of an eye and my mind was blown because the storyline is so unique. It’s something I’ve never seen before and I love the character of Hwang Joon Ho. So I decided to join the cast.”
Wi Ha Joon‘s Hwang Joon Ho is a character line that’s separate from the Squid Game contestant. He tries his best to infiltrate the game in search of his brother. Hwang Joon Ho is a police officer, so he is very quick in handling situations from killing and impersonating guards, reading morse codes. Viewers really cried their eyes out when they saw the segment of Hwang Joon Ho and his brother.
When asked about his on-screen teamwork with Lee Jung Jae, he regretfully shared:
“Unfortunately, I didn’t have many scenes with him so, it was a bit of a bummer that I didn’t get to see him much in person. But he definitely showed something different, something he has never shown before, in this series. I could see that his steps and gaze were those of his character and his acting deeply inspired me.”
After part 1, Hwang Joon Ho was warmly received by the audience, so maybe he will “come back to life” in the side story or Squid Game part 2? Do you want this handsome policeman to return?
