“Revenant” Kim Tae Ri, “Whenever I got a script, I asked writer Kim Eun Hee about 50-100 questions”

SBS’s “Revenant” released a video showing the cast and writer Kim Eun Hee talking about the drama production.

Prior to the first broadcast today (June 22nd), the production team of “Revenant” unveiled a video containing various information and interesting details that viewers can look forward to when watching the drama.

SBS’s new Fri-Sat drama “Revenant” (written by Kim Eun Hee) is a Korean occult mystery drama centering on a woman possessed by a devil and a man who can see the devil digging into mysterious deaths.

Explaining her intention when planning the story of “Revenant”, writer Kim Eun Hee said, “Taking the inspiration from the stories of ghosts in folklore, I wanted to talk about how young people nowadays are influenced by such ghosts.” This is also the reason why Kim Eun Hee, who made her name widely known to the public with the Joseon zombie series “Kingdom”, joined hands with SBS to create a Korean occult drama.

The casting of trustworthy actors, including Kim Tae Ri, Oh Jung Se and Hong Kyung, is also one of the factors that raise viewers’ expectations. In this regard, writer Kim Eun Hee expressed her satisfaction, saying “I didn’t intend to cast them in the first place”, adding “However, actress Kim Tae Ri, who is very brave, actor Oh Jung Se, who likes exploring things, and Hong Kyung, who always have questions, resembled the characters in the drama so much. I even wondered, ‘How could they match all the images so well?’”.

The actors also showed serious attitudes towards “Revenant” and they convincingly explained their three-dimensional impressions of the work, which revolves around an unknown existence. Heralding a new transformation as Goo San Young, a character with two faces, Kim Tae Ri confessed, “Every time I received a script, I asked about 50-100 questions”, adding “The writer wanted the devil to be ‘evil’ in all ways. After discussing with the director on the set, I came up with the movements of San Young when she gets possessed by the devil”.

Oh Jung Se, who plays folklore professor Yeom Hae Sang, shared, “At the beginning of the filming process, I acted with an invisible devil using abstract feelings”, adding “However, as we continued filming, the acting progressed to the point where it felt like I could actually see the devil”. Hong Kyung, who portrays Lieutenant Lee Hong Sae of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Violent Crime Investigation Unit, said, “Dealing with illogical aspects of the supernatural events, I focused on how to naturally convey them so that viewers can easily accept them.”

The exploration of the actors is one of the most anticipated details that keep viewers looking forward to “Revenant”. Writer Kim Eun Hee also left a tip for people who are afraid of the thriller genre. She emphasized, “It may look scary, but if you watch it closely, the story is actually heartwarming”, adding “If watching ‘Revenant’ alone is too frightening for you, please watch it with your family members, holding their hands tightly, and think of it as riding a roller coaster. I hope you enjoy the drama.”

SBS’s new Fri-Sat drama “Revenant” will premiere at 10 p.m. tomorrow (June 23rd).
