Viewers sign requests for cancellation of this drama only a month after its airing, “The content is terrible”
The drama “Secret Woman” is receiving negative reactions from viewers.
KBS2’s daily drama “Secret Woman”, which aired its first episode on March 14th, is about a woman, who loses her eyesight and falls into the locked-in syndrome (a conscious form of full-body paralysis) state due to her husband and his mistress, revealing the truth and seeking justice through revenge as she gets entangled with an heiress who has everything.
“Secret Woman” was expected to be similar to previous daily dramas, but its developments have gone too excessively. The misdeeds of the characters in this drama made many viewers frown. Viewers are getting tired of the plot full of provoking and controversial topics, such as murder, assault, child abandonment, confinement, love affairs, etc.
As a reflection of this atmosphere, the drama’s rating performance is quite disappointing. Starting at 10.4% in episode one, its rating chart currently stays in the 8-10% range (according to Nielsen Korea nationwide ratings).
As of April 15th, many people have signed the petition calling for the cancellation of KBS2’s daily drama “Secret Woman” posted on KBS Viewer Center’s ‘Viewer Petition’ page.
These petitioners poured out criticism towards the drama’s provocative materials and poor developments.
A netizen who signed the petition said, “The content is too offensive for family members to gather and watch it together. If children, who are still unable to differentiate between good and bad, they may think the world is terrible through watching this drama”, adding “Can’t drama producers create more heartwarming dramas without using topics, such as divorce, love affairs, murder, murders, etc. as elements for the plot?”. They complained, “The world is already chaotic. Please make healing dramas and stop making too provocative ones.”
Hundreds of viewers have signed the petition agreeing to cancel the drama.
Another petitioner also requested, “I want ‘Secret Woman’ to end early”, adding “I cannot stand watching murders, confinement, affairs, frauds, false accusations, theft, etc… during my pleasant evenings. It’s so terrible that I can’t even let my children watch it together. The ratings are also poor, so please end it early.”
In addition, others also commented, “It’s so frustrating that the drama keeps repeating intense contents, such as crimes and conspiracies, every day. This is too much”, “I hope broadcasters raise the broadcasting standards for dramas”, etc.
