IU expresses genuine surprise at discovering NewJeans’ youngest member, Hyein’s age during an episode of “IU’s Palette.”
On July 24th, IU’s YouTube web entertainment show, ‘IU’s Palette,’ featured NewJeans as guests.
IU said, “Hyein and I have a significant commonality. It’s the number ‘2008.’ I debuted in 2008. But Hyein was born in 2008. I was also surprised.”
IU continued, “When I debuted, whenever I went to broadcasting stations or schedules, everyone would say, ‘A middle school student debuted?’ I wonder if Hyein is listening to that now. I debuted at the age of 16, and Hyein is the same age as me now. She debuted last year, so she did it at a younger age than me.”
IU then said, “It’s fascinating to have someone born in 2008 as a guest on ‘Palette’. Some people might not like being called ‘young.’ What do you think about that?” When asked, Hyein replied, “I don’t really mind. It just depends on the situation.”
IU added, “Then, would it be okay if I get surprised by your youthfulness? I was worried it might be impolite,” and with a smile, she said, “Since you’re okay with it, I’ll have moments of surprise now and then.”
Born in 1993, IU debuted in 2008 and received much love as the “Nation’s Little Sister” in the K-pop industry. Celebrating her 15th debut anniversary this year, she is holding a media art exhibition to meet her fans.
NewJeans released their second mini-album ‘Get Up’ on July 21st. The pre-release tracks ‘Super Shy’ and ‘NewJeans’ are also performing well on major music sites.
