The doll BLACKPINK Jennie held in her hand at the airport became popular again after 25 years

The Onion Koongya doll Jennie recently received as a gift from fans went viral

Arriving at Incheon International Airport after completing BLACKPINK’s world tour schedule on September 3rd, Jennie received a little gift doll from fans. She crossed the crowd of reporters while holding a green doll tightly in her hand.

This little doll with sparkling eyes, flushed cheeks and a cute smile is “Onion Koongya”, a character developed by the game company Net Marble.

Onion Koongya is the first-generation character created by Net Marble in 1998 and is more familiar to people who were born in the 1980s or 1990s. However, this character began to enjoy reverse popularity last year, after 25 years, thanks to a meme that spread on social media. The remarks of this character in the game are now gaining sympathy from MZ Generation people in Korea.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Net Marble is expanding Onion Koongya’s IP with a spin-off brand with various promotional activities, such as opening an Instagram account, launching collaborative products with famous brands, such as McDonald’s, Hyundai Motor, etc., opening pop-up stores, and creating Kakaotalk emoticons.
