These Korean actors, who have been through huge turning points in their lives, all seem to achieve outstanding successes.

People all experience at least one significant turning point in their lives, which brings about huge changes, and Korean actors are no exception. Below are several who have been through major turning points, and the status of their careers afterwards.

Kim Woo Bin

The turning point of Kim Woo Bin‘s life was his illness. In 2017, just when his career was skyrocketing, Kim Woo Bin was diagnosed with a serious illness and had to stop all activities to focus on treatment. For over three years, the actor practically disappeared from the entertainment industry, with only a few updates on his treatment progress through his management company.

In 2020, after a long period of hiatus, Kim Woo Bin accepted some advertising projects and participated in the filming of blockbuster movie “Alienoid”. Then, in 2022, the actor shared the great news that he is now “all clean” from cancer.

With stable health, Kim Woo Bin’s career got back on track, and even advanced further. With his role as a lovesick captain in the drama “Our Blues”, followed by a cool appearance in “Alienoid”,  the actor garnered a lot of praise and attention.

Song Hye Kyo

The turning point in Song Hye Kyo‘s life was her marriage. In particular, the actress tied the knot with Song Joong Ki in 2017, but the couple separated in 2019. Following her divorce, Song Hye Kyo was shrouded in unpleasant rumors, which seem impossible to overcome. Nevertheless, the “visual goddess” did not let these hardships hold her back, and has since successfully rebounded.

Returning to the single life, Song Hye Kyo has transformed her style, elevated her charisma, and even appeared more youthful, propelling her forward in the fashion and advertising industry.

Becoming a brand ambassador, gracing the covers of top magazines, and attending fashion weeks are all common occurrences for Song Hye Kyo these days. Whenever she appears, no matter the occasion, she always stuns with her beauty and impeccable aura.

As for her acting, two years ago, Song Hye Kyo received mixed reviews for showing repetitive performances in similar roles, but now the tables have turned. Her role as Moon Dong Eun, the vengeful main character of “The Glory”, has earned her much praise for her acting skills. In the Korean entertainment industry, Song Hye Kyo is a rare case of someone who has starred in hit dramas at every age between 20 and 40.

Lee Je Hoon

For most male Korean celebrities, military service can be a turning point in both their personal lives and careers. In Korea’s entertainment industry, there are many actors who struggle to regain their reputation after discharge, but there are also those who rise to greater heights after serving. Lee Je Hoon falls into the latter category.

Before fulfilling his military service, Lee Je Hoon was known for his film performances but lacked recognition on television.

At the age of 30, after being discharged, Lee Je Hoon landed his first lead role on TV in the historical drama “Secret” Door, alongside veteran actor Han Suk Kyu and rising actresses Kim Yoo Jung and Park Eun Bin. Two years later, he achieved even greater success with the crime thriller “Signal”, co-starring with Kim Hye Soo.

Then, through “Taxi Driver”, both season 1 in 2021 and season 2 in 2023, Lee Je Hoon has gained even more love for his perfect mix of humor and action. His natural ability to embody any role with authenticity and emotional depth has helped to elevate his popularity even further.
