“Summer Queen” Soyou Returns with Refreshing Summer Song, Filling Fans’ Longing for SISTAR

Soyou makes a comeback as the original “Summer Queen” with refreshing summer songs.

On July 26th, Soyou held a showcase in Seoul to celebrate the release of her second mini-album ‘Summer Recipe.’ During the event, she shared stories about her new album.

After her first mini-album “Day & Night” released in April of last year, Soyou is making a comeback after a year and three months. She expressed her feelings, “I’m back with summer music after a year and three months. The title track, especially with Bora featuring, will help you spend this summer coolly, just as you have been waiting.”

Soyou’s new album ‘Summer Recipe’ will present her own “recipe” for enjoying the hot summer. It will offer diverse genres and emotional music that perfectly match the current season.

Regarding the new album, Soyou explained, “It means I created a special recipe that can cool down the hot summer a bit. I think many people are looking forward to Soyou’s summer album, so I put a lot of effort into making it diverse.

For this album, Soyou worked hard on exercising, “I worked hard to get in shape. In my last single album, I lost a lot of weight, even muscles. This time, I had to gain back what I lost, so I exercised diligently. To give a healthy impression, I even tanned after a long time. Especially for summer songs, there is exposure, so I worked hard to show a toned figure.

The title track ‘ALOHA (Feat. Bora)’ is a pop dance genre song where Soyou’s refreshing vocals blend with lyrics that cheerfully greet ‘hello’, just as the title suggests. Bora, Soyou’s former groupmate in SISTAR, is known to have participated as a featuring artist.

When asked about the similarity to SISTAR’s vibes in this new song, Soyou replied, “For ‘ALOHA,’ many people seem to think of SISTAR, and I can’t fill in the roles of the four members alone, but I wanted to try. It wasn’t initially planned for Bora to feature, but when I heard her rap flow, I thought she was the only one who could pull it off. She listened to it and gladly agreed to feature. There are also some dance moves that pay homage to the past.”

Having received much love as the ‘Summer Queen’ during SISTAR’s activities, Soyou was asked if the title burdens her. She replied, “I’m grateful, and it’s a pleasant burden. However, I want to be a singer who can be remembered not only in summer but in all seasons, so I will strive for that. I think the energy SISTAR had was well suited for summer.

Regarding the possibility of a SISTAR reunion, Soyou said, “When I meet with the members, we talk about it. We wonder when it would be good for us to reunite, but it’s difficult for me to give a specific answer alone. Since we are all active in our respective places, aligning schedules is challenging. We don’t want to burden each other. We talk a lot about setting a time and making it a gift for our fans, but it’s not easy. Still, we all have a strong desire to repay our fans, so we talk a lot about it. I hope we can reunite someday.

Lastly, Soyou mentioned a change in her image, “At some point, I think my image shifted towards ballads. It’s also great, but lately, I haven’t received many offers to appear at events like Waterbomb. A few days ago, I attended one event and found it so much fun. Through this album, I want to sweep away Waterbomb next year. I want to let the officials know that I’m ready for it.”
