Song Joong Ki’s “Reborn Rich” overcame the “broadcast cancellation” crisis. Will it surpass Park Eun Bin’s “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”?
“Reborn Rich” continued to rise in ratings despite the recent broadcast cancellation.
“Reborn Rich”, which recently decided to cancel an episode for fear that the World Cup broadcast would affect its rating performance, once again set a new viewer rating peak. With this upward trend, the drama is aiming at surpassing the records of previous hits “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “One Dollar Lawyer”. Drama fans are also waiting to see whether “Reborn Rich” would be able to reach 20%, the rating that many drama producers dream of.
According to Nielsen Korea, episode 7 of JTBC’s Fri-Sat-Sun series “Reborn Rich” (written by Kim Tae Hee, Jang Eun Jae/ directed by Jung Dae Yoon, Kim Sang Ho), which aired on December 3rd, recorded an average nationwide rating of 16.1% and 18% in the Seoul area with a real-time peak of 20.6%. In the 2049 viewer rating chart, the drama achieved 7.3%.
The 16.1% record showed an increase of 1.2% from episode 6 (14.9%), which aired on November 27th, and is currently the best performance of “Reborn Rich” rating. On the same day, SBS’s “The First Responders” recorded 8.9% in Seoul area (peak 11.9%), and tvN’s “Under the Queen’s Umbrella” received the result of 13.4% (peak 15%) in nationwide rating in its latest episode, “Reborn Rich” successfully topped the viewer rating chart among dramas of the same broadcasting time.
The 7th episode showed Jin Yang Chul (Lee Sung Min) making a strong attack to prevent the rebellion of Jin Do Joon (Song Joong Ki). The power of Sunyang Group caused Jin Do Joon and Miracle to retreat. When Jin Yang Chul was about to find a winning opportunity, he was shocked by the existence of a ‘time bomb’ that has slept inside his head for a long time.
“Reborn Rich”, which had been meeting the viewers 3 times a week, announced the cancellation of its 7th broadcast, which was scheduled to air on December 2nd. It was because of the World Cup match between South Korea and Portugal to determine the group that would advance to the Round of 16. JTBC said, “Considering the schedule of the global sports event, which is arousing high public interest, we decided to take a break from broadcasting”.
In fact, JTBC does not broadcast the 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup. They made such a decision for fear that the event that attracted keen public attention would affect the rating performance of “Reborn Rich”. While the drama was on a rise and broke its highest records every time, the broadcaster must have thought of a way to not lose the heat although the flow of immersion was slightly cut off. In the end, JTBC’s move actually worked, and “Reborn Rich” even gained a 1.2% increase in viewer ratings.
Meanwhile, “Reborn Rich” will end after airing the 16th episode on December 25th.
