Daewhi rarely interacts on fancafe but his recent post has disappointed the fans due to his lack of caution.
Yesterday morning, the song Hourglass belonging to Lee Daehwi and Ong Seongwu’s unit climbed to #1 on Mnet chart. Meanwhile the group’s song Light dropped to No.4.
After a fan had posted on the group’s fancafe about the Hourglass surpassing Light and remaining the leading position, Daehwi posted an article as a thank you letter to fans.
Daehwi’s letter mainly expressed his happiness when Hourglass got #1. At the end of the post, beside saying thank you, he wrote that he loves the fans a lot. However, instead of fans’ satisfaction with this sweet and sincere letter, anger and controversy began to raise in Wanna One’s fandom, which has already contained many conflicts.
Many fans wondered why when Light got #1, Daehwi did not say thank you. And when saying those thankful words, who did he say to? To those attempting to put his own unit song to #1, instead of the ones streaming for the group’s song?
This controversy has once again affirmed the company’s poor managerial competences, which contributed to the fans’ wars by dividing the units for an 11-member group, whose members have their own fandom. Actually, fans inside this fandom haven’t got along with one another since the group’s debut, the number of fans of the whole group is probably lower than that of some popular members. The competition, the dispute over the amount of broadcast time, the length of the lyrics… in every comeback are even more severe when the units were born.
In this situation, Lee Daehwi’s action is like an encouragement for the dispute. Instead of calling fans to stream for Light, he was too aggressive when concentrating on his own unit’s song. Getting mature from the survival show, Daehwi seems to forget that Wanna One is now a group, they no longer have to fight for their own popularity. Only when members of the group unite, the fandom itself can be as one.
