At the 2023 Baeksang, Ryu Jun Yeol and Tang Wei were honored with the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards in the film category.
On April 28th, the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards was held at Paradise City in Incheon. Here, Ryu Jun Yeol and Tang Wei were named as the winners for the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards in the film category for their performance in “The Night Owl” and “Decision to Leave”, respectively.
During his award acceptance speech, Ryu Jun Yeol said, “Every time a project ends, I look back on how grateful I feel to my colleagues and staff. Thank you for supporting, caring, and cheering for me when I was lacking.” The actor also bowed his head and said, “I would like to ask those who will be with me in the future to help me make up for my shortcomings. Thank you.”
Tang Wei, who has been sweeping the Best Actress Awards at major domestic and international award ceremonies with “Decision to Leave”, also won the honor of Best Actress on the same day.
She took the stage and said, “I came to the Baeksang stage long ago with ‘Late Autumn’ and came back to Baeksang this year with ‘Decision to Leave’. It’s amazing and surprising that both Korean films I participated in received so much love. I think it’s an indescribable fate. Thank you.”
She also added, “I sincerely thank all Korean filmmakers and fans who have been with me, as well as Korean audiences, Director Park Chan Wook, and actor Park Hae Il.”
Meanwhile, the Baeksang Arts Awards is an award ceremony where professionals in the fields of TV, film, and theater, who have been active in the past year, gather to communicate and encourage each other.
This year, Shin Dong Yup, Suzy, and Park Bo Gum acted as hosts for the 59th Baeksang, which was broadcast live on JTBC.
