Discussions about the fanclub name of SM’s new boy group RIIZE drew attention
SM Entertainment recently announced that they decided to change the fanclub name of the new boy group RIIZE from SUNZ to BRIIZE.
To explain the change, the agency said, “We first introduced the fanclub name SUNZ, which received the most votes from fans, but there were also opinions from many fans worrying about misunderstandings that may arise from the name SUNZ and distort its good meaning”. They added, “In order to give fans who support and grow together with RIIZE a better name, we would like to change the fanclub name to BRIIZE, which ranked second in the vote among fans.”
After the announcement, some fans tried to figure out the possible misunderstandings about the name SUNZ and found out that its pronunciation in Chinese may sound similar to a word that means “testicle”.
