“Reborn Rich” broadcast got canceled even though JTBC doesn’t live broadcast the World Cup?

JTBC’s Friday-Saturday-Sunday drama “Reborn Rich” is drawing viewers’ curiosity after being canceled unexpectedly this week.

“Reborn Rich”, which airs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 p.m., will take a break on December 2nd. As planned, episode 7 is supposed to be aired on Dec 2nd, but it will reportedly be replaced by a re-run of episode 6. Episodes 7 and 8 are to be broadcast on Dec 3rd and 4th.

In this regard, most viewers are guessing that the cancelation is due to the World Cup live broadcast. Particularly, the World Cup match between South Korea and Portugal will start at midnight on Dec 2nd-3rd. However, JTBC, where “Reborn Rich” is broadcast, does not have the right to broadcast this year’s World Cup on TV. JTBC cannot broadcast the World Cup anyway, and of course, it is free from advertisements related to World Cup broadcasting.

The drama’s broadcast time also leaves a question mark. The pure broadcast time of “Reborn rich” is between 61 and 80 minutes. The first episode had the longest broadcast time of 80 minutes, and the latest episode was about 70 minutes. Including advertising time, one episode is about 85 minutes long.

In other words, if “Reborn Rich” begins at 10:30 p.m., the episode ends before midnight. Although Korea’s World Cup game starts at midnight, many believe “Reborn Rich” will not overlap with the match.

Viewers interpret this as JTBC’s willingness to avoid an impact on its viewers’ ratings due to the World Cup. In fact, JTBC canceled the originally scheduled “CK Monsters” on Nov 28th when the match between Korea and Ghana was held, and re-broadcasted “Talkpawon 25:00.” However, the channel did not officially disclose the reason for canceling the program.
