Jihyo’s Basic Information
Jihyo was born in Guri, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. When she was in 3rd grade, Jihyo participated in a contest on Junior Naver for a child role and won 2nd place, which resulted in her being scouted by JYP Entertainment.
She ended up joining JYP as a trainee in 2005, and trained under the company for over 10 years. She was set to debut in the girl group 6MIX along with Nayeon, Jeongyeon, and Sana, but the project was canceled, leading to her participation in “SIXTEEN”.
Jihyo’s Career
Before TWICE, Jihyo was the face of Innisfree’s teen line “TN” with boy group BOYFRIEND and later with future group mate Nayeon.
In 2015, she appeared on the survival program “SIXTEEN”and finished in 8th place, officially joining the debut line-up of TWICE.

Dating and Controversies
In 2019, Dispatch reported that Kang Daniel and Jihyo were in a relationship, and the couple often meet for dates at Kang Daniel’s highly secure residence. Later on, the agencies of both idols confirmed the dating news. However, the couple were revealed to have broken up in November 2020.
In 2020, Jihyo was seen using the term “웅앵웅” (translated to “attention-seeker”, which can be deemed as offensive to men) in a V-live chatroom. Meanwhile, TWICE is known to have a lot of male fans, and this action has greatly angered them. As a result, various Koreans announced that they will be leaving the fandom and expressed disappointment and anger.
In March 2024, it was reported that Jihyo and athlete Yoon Sung-bin have been dating for a year. According to media outlets, the two got to know each other through the introduction of an acquaintance and got closer by working out together.

Jihyo was a part of the all-female non-professional soccer club called “FC Rumor W” alongside various other idols and also non-celebrities. On August 11, 2020, however, Jihyo decided to leave the club after controversies about the club being a “dating ground” arose.
