MBC’s special drama series A Shop for Killers Season 2 continues to struggle in the ratings, remaining in the 1% range for a second consecutive episode.
Based on author Kang Ji Young’s novel The Killer’s Shopping Mall, the action thriller follows Jeong Ji An (played by Kim Hye Jun), who becomes the target of deadly assassins after inheriting a mysterious shopping mall from her uncle Jeong Jin Man (played by Lee Dong Wook). Episode 2 saw the attacks on Ji An intensify, completely shattering her ordinary life. The episode also hinted that Jin Man’s legacy involves far more than an ordinary shopping mall, revealing its connection to a dangerous underground world.
According to Nielsen Korea, Episode 2 recorded a nationwide rating of 1.3%, down 0.4 percentage points from the premiere. In comparison, So Ji Sub‘s SBS drama Agent Kim Reactivated aired on the same day and achieved 21.6%, widening the ratings gap to more than 16 times.
Episode 3, airing on July 10 at 9:50 p.m. KST, will alternate between Ji An’s present-day fight for survival and childhood memories with her uncle. Through these flashbacks, viewers will learn the true meaning behind Jin Man’s seemingly strange words and actions. The memories also become key to helping Ji An survive her current crisis.
In the newly released preview, Ji An recalls Jin Man telling her: “The scarier it gets, the wider you should open your eyes and face it.” As a child, Jin Man even trained her to shoot using firearms under mysterious circumstances. The upcoming episode will reveal whether Ji An can finally understand his teachings and use them to stay alive.
Meanwhile, the danger surrounding Ji An and Jeong Min continues to escalate. After the walls protecting Jin Man’s safe house collapse, the pair find themselves exposed to attacks from every direction, forcing Ji An to make a critical decision to protect both herself and Jeong Min. The series also promises to reveal that beneath Jin Man’s blunt personality lay a deep love and concern for his niece.
