Once famous for his visuals, this K-drama star shows regretful “ugly styling” in Chinese drama

Netizens are paying attention to the styling of a Chinese drama, expressing regrets as it completely ruined the visuals of a K-drama star.

Recently, a discussion suddenly emerged about Chinese drama “The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils”, which stars former Super Junior member Kim Ki Bum. Here, the actor, who is once known for his top-tier visuals, boasts a styling that draws immense criticisms. In particular, as Duan Yu, a classic character in Chinese period dramas, Kim Ki Bum was styled with colorful outfits with tacky patterns. At the time of airing, when the series came under fire for Ki Bum’s style, the production crew reasoned that they invited a Hong Kong designer for the costume and how the audience perceived the styling was a matter of taste.

Looking at Kim Ki Bum’s on-screen image, the audience saw eye to eye that it was really the role and the outfits that downplayed his visuals. In the 2000s, Kim Ki Bum was ranked among the most beautiful actors with the classic side-profile still for “Sharp 2.” Viewers believed he would have been better off with drama series set in modern times.

Looking back at Kim Ki Bum’s past images, netizens can’t help but express regrets for such glorious visuals. However, Kim Ki Bum seems to have disappeared from the entertainment industry ever since, taking on only a few big-screen projects. In fact, some also said that Kim Ki Bum decided to go to China since his popularity in Korea has shown signs of dwindling, though it was unfortunately that his attempts in the Chinese acting industry also came to naught.

After “The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils”, Kim Ki Bum went on years of hiatus, before returning to the screen and shocking audiences with a changed appearance. While the actor now has a different agency, and his visuals are now shining again, he was unable to resurrect his fame. Once a “youthful prince”, Kim Ki Bum’s career has taken a disappointing and unfortunate turn.
