NewJeans Represents Korea’s Beauty In First Performance After Min Hee-jin and HYBE Conflict

NewJeans was on stage for the first time since the conflict between ADOR’s CEO Min Hee-jin and HYBE broke out.

NewJeans became the last to perform at the “2024 Korea on Stage-New Generation Performance” held at Heungryemun Square in Gyeongbokgung Palace in central Seoul on May 21. The youngest member of NewJeans, Hyein, couldn’t take part in this event due to a foot injury. The pre-recorded “Cool With You” performance at Geunjeongjeon Hall, Gyeongbokgung Palace was first shown in the show.

Geunjeongjeon Hall is a palace building that held a significant national ceremony during the Joseon Dynasty and is now an important national heritage site designated as a national treasure. It is rare that a public performance was held in the area of Geunjeongjeon Hall since the opening of Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1954.

In particular, NewJeans is the first K-pop girl group to perform here. The National Heritage Administration opened Geunjeongjeon specially for the stage of NewJeans. Previously, global supergroup BTS was the first group to perform here.

The highlight of the show was the styling that highlighted the beauty of Korea. For this year’s performance, the members of the NewJeans wore the traditional Korean traditional costume specifically re-designed for them. Starting with “Ditto,” the group performed a parade of hit songs such as “ETA” and “Super Shy,” showing off their unwavering professionalism despite their company’s internal feuds.

“I’ve been on many stages, but it is very meaningful and honored for us to perform at Gyeongbokgung Palace, a national heritage site,” Haerin said. In addition, Danielle was the solo MC of “Korea on Stage,” using both Korean and English fluently.

Meanwhile, a shareholders’ meeting will be held on May 31st regarding the dismissal of ADOR’s CEO Min Her-jin. NewJeans will make a comeback with a new single, “How Sweet,” on the 24th.
