Girl group NewJeans expressed their feelings after entering the US Billboard’s main single chart “Hot 100” after 181 days of debut.
On January 19th, NewJeans revealed their feelings to CBS’ “No Cut News” about entering Billboard’s Hot 100 through their agency, ADOR. Here, Minji said, “I think entering the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ chart is something I am really very grateful for. I didn’t expect to receive this much love for our second album, and I didn’t expect to receive so much attention, but I’m surprised and grateful! I want to continue to repay you with good music.”
Meanwhile, Hanni said, “It’s such an honor, and I was surprised that something unexpected happened, but I’m so happy! I think “Ditto” is a song that everyone can relate to because it is connected to the emotions that everyone has deep in their hearts. And I’m very happy and proud to know that many people listen to ‘Ditto’ a lot. I hope people can find healing and comfort through ‘Ditto’.”
Danielle added, “My dream is to be on the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ since I was young. It feels more like a dream that we entered the chart. It’s such an honor and I can’t believe it! Thank you!”
Meanwhile, Haerin commented, “When I heard the news of our entering the ‘Hot 100’ chart, I couldn’t believe it and was surprised. I want to say thank you so much for loving our song. In the future, we’ll continue to show you our colors and songs that you want to hear! Thank you!”
Lastly, NewJeans’ youngest member Hyein said, “I can’t believe it. Thank you to everyone who listened to our song! It’s amazing that listeners in various regions listen to our songs and like them even though the languages are different. I will continue to do my best to release good songs for you!”
On January 17th, Billboard, an American music media outlet, released its latest “Hot 100” chart, and “Ditto”, which was included in NewJeans’ first single album “OMG”, reached position No.96. This is an outstanding result, achieved within just 6 months of debut.
“Ditto” first entered the “Bubbling Under Hot 100” chart, which ranks 25 songs that did not make it to “Hot 100”, at 14th place (as of January 7th). After that, on January 14th, it rose 6 places and made it to the 8th position, raising expectations for entering “Hot 100”.
“Ditto”, a reinterpretation of the Baltimore club dance music genre with NewJeans’ unique sensibility, is a charming song with a warm and cozy sound and an old school drum break. It is explained that the introduction of the dreamy yet unique humming implies the first winter enjoyed by NewJeans.
“Ditto” dominated the domestic digital music weekly charts for three consecutive weeks from the third week of December, right after its release. It also took first place in all terrestrial broadcasting music programs, including KBS2’s “Music Bank”, MBC’s “Show! Music Core” (2 weeks in a row) and SBS’ “Inkigayo”.
