According to Sohu, Patrick Tse prepared his will last year after suffering a stroke. Following his passing at the age of 89, reports about the distribution of his estate have drawn widespread public attention. These inheritance details have not been independently confirmed by the Tse family.

Chinese media reports estimate Patrick Tse’s estate at approximately HK$1 billion (around US$128 million), consisting of real estate, stocks, and cash.

According to the reported will:

  • 90% of the estate (about HK$900 million) is placed into a trust for his grandsons, Lucas Tse and Quintus Tse.
  • Lucas, now 20 years old, is reportedly eligible to receive distributions directly from the trust.
  • Quintus, who is still a minor at 16, would have his share managed until adulthood.

The remaining 10% is reportedly divided between Patrick Tse’s two children:

  • Nicholas Tse is said to inherit a property in Repulse Bay.
  • Jennifer Tse is reportedly set to receive a valuable jewelry collection.

Reports estimate the combined value of those assets at roughly HK$100 million.

The reported distribution surprised many fans, as Patrick Tse allegedly left only a small portion of his estate to his own children. However, Chinese media note that the veteran actor was known to be especially close to his grandsons and maintained a warm relationship with his former daughter-in-law, Cecilia Cheung, even after her divorce from Nicholas Tse.

During his lifetime, Patrick Tse publicly praised Cheung on multiple occasions, describing her as an exceptional daughter-in-law and commending her devotion as a mother to Lucas and Quintus. Following Cecilia Cheung’s highly publicized photo scandal involving Edison Chen years ago, Patrick Tse also publicly defended her. Even after her divorce from Nicholas Tse, he reportedly continued to regard her as part of the family, while Cheung regularly brought their children to visit their paternal grandparents during holidays.

According to Sohu, Patrick Tse’s reported will also includes several conditions governing the management of his grandsons’ inheritance. The reports claim that:

  • Cecilia Cheung may help oversee the trust on behalf of her sons but cannot take ownership of inherited real estate.
  • If she remarries, she would reportedly lose her authority to manage the trust assets.
  • The inheritance would remain under the supervision of a professional trustee, with funds intended primarily for Lucas and Quintus’s education and medical expenses.
  • The reports also allege that the family requested the boys visit Patrick Tse’s grave regularly to pay their respects.

None of these reported provisions have been officially verified by Patrick Tse’s family or legal representatives.

Chinese media also speculate that Patrick Tse left relatively little to his two children because both are already financially secure. Nicholas Tse has built a successful career as an actor, singer, entrepreneur, and television personality, with reports estimating his personal net worth at around US$143 million. Meanwhile, Jennifer Tse has long established her own family life and financial stability.

According to these reports, Patrick Tse believed his children did not require substantial inheritance and instead prioritized securing the future of his grandchildren.

Born in 1936, Patrick Tse was one of Hong Kong cinema’s most celebrated actors, starring in classics such as The Legend of the Condor Heroes, Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, The Proud Twins, and numerous other film and television productions spanning decades. In 2022, at the age of 85, he became the oldest recipient of the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor, cementing his status as one of the industry’s enduring legends.
