Netizens Have Mixed Reactions to BLACKPINK Jisoo Taking on a Lead Role for Her Acting Comeback

BLACKPINK Jisoo is reportedly set to return as an actress in the zombie-themed series “Influenza.”

However, this has sparked divided opinions among Korean netizens.

The news broke on August 31st, revealing that Jisoo would be taking on the lead role in “Influenza,” alongside Park Jung Min. “Influenza” is based on a novel of the same name and is set in a bustling airport building in Seoul during a zombie outbreak. The story revolves around the unexpected reunion of a soldier and his former girlfriend amidst the chaos of a zombie pandemic.

The announcement quickly became a trending topic in Korea, generating a wide range of responses from fans and netizens.

While many fans eagerly await Jisoo’s return to the small screen, some have raised questions about her readiness for another leading role.

Online comments reflect this diversity of opinions: “But can she act?” “It’s great to see her diversifying her career,” “I like Jisoo, but her voice doesn’t suit acting. I hope she practices more to improve. I don’t want to see her criticized,” “With Jisoo’s acting, how did she get a lead role?” “Can’t Jisoo just stick to singing?” “I don’t think Jisoo is a great actress, but there are too many harsh comments,” “Please don’t ruin projects by giving roles to people who can’t act. If other actors do well, Jisoo’s shortcomings in acting become even more evident.”

Jisoo’s acting debut in the 2021 drama “Snowdrop” garnered mixed reviews. While international fans were generally forgiving of her debut performance, some Korean viewers found room for improvement. Korean netizens cited concerns about Jisoo’s pronunciation, delivery, and expression.

There’s a constructive opinion regarding the choice of roles for Jisoo. Some argue that she should ease into acting with lighter roles in romance dramas, while others believe that taking on challenging projects can help her grow as an actress.

Despite the differing opinions, it’s worth noting that Jisoo has earned recognition from industry professionals. She received the Best New Actress award at the Ddu Korean Drama Awards in early 2022, followed by the Outstanding Actress award at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2022 in September of the same year.
