Netizens enraged by selfish K-drama characters who nearly kill each other over instant noodles

This Korean horror and school-themed drama features many selfish characters, causing frustration.

Premiered on March 31st, the K-drama “Duty After School” has created a buzz among young audiences with its story of humans fighting against alien monsters. In the series, Seongjin High School suddenly becomes a battleground and is invaded by a terrifying army of alien monsters. The students now have to drop their pens, pick up weapons, and fight to protect themselves and humanity from this invasion.

Despite having such unique and captivating content, however, “Duty After School” has frustrated a great number of viewers due to having many selfish and unfathomable characters.

As “Duty After School” is a horror drama with a school setting, its main characters are all of young ages, leading to understandably poor behavior and decision-making. As a result, characters in the drama have a selfish attitude, only thinking of themselves and ignoring those around them, enraging the audience. For example, in a scene where three female students unexpectedly encounter a monster, one of them suddenly runs away, hides in a car, and locks it, trapping her friends outside. As a result, the other two girls cannot get in, and have to run for their lives.

Later, when they return to the classroom, the cowardly and selfish girl apologizes to her friends but receives no sympathy. In fact, before this, the two other girls had saved her life, but she did not reciprocate when the entire group faced danger.

In another scene from “Duty After School,” a bespectacled girl named Joon Hee discovers a pack of instant noodles in the food cupboard but does not tell her classmates. While everyone else is starving, she sneaks outside to eat alone. Unexpectedly, a monster appears, intending to attack her. Fortunately, Joon Hee is saved by her classmates, but criticized for selfishly hiding food, as revealed by the noodles stuck on her lips.

In addition, “Duty After School” has many scenes showing human selfishness when disaster strikes. Even military officers are willing to abandon their subordinates and students to escape, but ultimately pay a heavy price. The drama has a similar structure to “Train to Busan” and “All of Us Are Death”, with humanity being prone to decay in life-threatening situations. However, in the end, the characters of “Duty After School” learn to grow up and overcome dangers together for the greater good.

The TVING drama “Duty After School”, which consists of 6 episodes, has been praised by many viewers for its suspenseful and engaging directing, alongside an interesting cast. However, the endless detestable characters and non-adherence to the original webtoon also infuriate a great number of audiences.
