Netizens amazed at the resemblance between “The Glory” adult and child actors

From Song Hye Kyo and Jung Ji So to Lim Ji Yeon and Shin Ye Eun, the choices of adult and child actors in “The Glory” is absolutely perfect.

The Netflix original series “The Glory” (director Ahn Gil Ho) depicts the story of a woman whose soul was shattered due to school violence she experienced as a child. She then meticulously prepared a desperate revenge against the people who hurt her in the past.

“The Glory”, which drew attention as Kim Eun Sook and Song Hye Kyo’s first attempt in the revenge genre, recorded about 25 million viewing hours within 3 days after its OTT release. It also immediately ranked 3rd in the Netflix Global “TOP 10 TV” (non-English) sector, creating a huge sensation.

Alongside its solid revenge storyline and unprecedented acting transformations of cast members such as Song Hye Kyo and Lim Ji Yeon, the resemblances between the two actresses and their “young version” in the drama have also become a hot topic.

First, Moon Dong Eun, whose life collapsed without receiving any help or consolation despite being subjected to severe school violence during her school days, was played by Song Hye Kyo. Meanwhile, Jung Ji So played the young version of this character. On the other hand, Lim Ji Yeon and Shin Ye Eun transform into the respective adult and child versions of Park Yeon Jin, the leader of the school bullies that harassed Moon Dong Eun.

Prior to the release of “The Glory”, this combination already attracted attention. In particular, when the still cuts of the actresses as their characters were released, online communities were filled with responses such as “Who cast Song Hye Kyo and Jung Ji So? They’re perfect”, “Lim Ji Yeon and Shin Ye Eun look good together. I can’t wait to see them play the villain”.

Then, when “The Glory” was aired, the resemblance between the actresses became a hot topic. Compared to other cast members, Song Hye Kyo and Jung Ji So have aroused viewers’ expectations with their smaller bodies, smaller heights, and clean and innocent appearances.  Song Hye Kyo and Jung Ji So’s atmospheres are so similar that it enhances the immersion of viewers.

Jung Ji So, who cried over the continued school violence, became the emotionless Song Hye Kyo, who went through all the storms and prepared for her revenge. Their resemblance and synch gave more strength to the success of “The Glory”.

The same can be said for Lim Ji Yeon and Shin Ye Eun. Playing Park Yeon Jin, the leader of the bully group who picked out and harassed “socially underprivileged” students, including Moon Dong Eun, both actresses flaunted mad eyes and a strong abusive tone, as well as brazenness in admitting they enjoy doing something they know is wrong.

As a result, Lim Ji Yeon and Shin Ye Eun, who played Park Yeon Jin, are praised by viewers as looking like “the same person”, even in atmosphere and tone.

In addition to Song Hye Kyo, Jung Ji So, Lim Ji Yeon and Shin Ye Eun, who first received attention, the resemblances of other child and adult actors also became a hot topic.

Park Seong Hoon and child actor Song Byeong Geun, who plays color-blind Jeon Jae Joon, has a habit of putting eye drops and leaves uncomfortable smiles. Kim Hieora and Bae Kang Hee both boast a creepy feeling despite being the daughter of a pastor, while Cha Joo Young and Song Ji Woo pull off an excellent performance as Choi Hye Jeong, who grew up in an environment that was less than her peers.  Finally, Kim Gun Woo and Seo Woo Hyuk both showed an aloof and cunningness unique to their character, Son Myeong Oh.

The Glory

The gang of perpetrators who participated in the school violence led by Park Yeon Jin showed personalities that did not change even when they grew up, as well as appearances  that match perfectly between present and past.

Director Ahn Gil Ho, who was in charge of directing, said that he tried to find actors who had a high resemblance with the current characters, and expressed satisfaction with the actors’ portrayal. “They have studied their characters more deeply than they thought,” he said.

Thanks to such casting, the audience find it easy to immerse in the world of “The Glory”, bringing the immense success that the drama is currently experiencing.

On the other hand, the 2nd season of “The Glory” is scheduled for release on Netflix in March 2023.
