Nam Joo Hyuk’s military status is updated, concerns of the actor’s pre-enlistment controversies reemerge
Latest status of Nam Joo Hyuk in the military is given.
On March 31st, SPOTV News reported that Nam Joo Hyuk is currently receiving basic military training as a platoon commander at the Nonsan Army Training Center in South Chungcheong Province. The actor joined the training camp on March 20th, the same training camp as Y, a member of the group Golden Child.
After completing the basic military training, Nam Joo Hyuk will be a member of the Military Police Corps Task Force, and Y will proceed as an active-duty soldier. The two were reportedly selected as platoon commanders from the boot camp out of excellent leadership or mission performance, showing how well the two are doing in the military.
Earlier, Nam Joo Hyuk enlisted on active duty on March 20th and held a private entrance ceremony without a separate place to bid goodbye to fans. However, there are mixed opinions to the decision as the actor was previously caught in rumors of school violence.
In June last year, an anonymous poster claiming to be an alumnus at Nam Joo Hyuk’s highschool disclosed that they had been bullied by Nam Joo Hyuk for six years. Despite the attempt of Nam Joo Hyuk’s agency to deny the rumor, another poster appeared to expose him. They claimed that 12 people, including the actor, invited them to a group chat to make sexual harassment and disparaging remarks.
In response, the agency released an announcement, “First, in regards to the content of the recent second anonymous report, we checked the truth from various angles through a number of channels, including, of course, the actor himself. We reiterate that we clearly confirmed that the claims made by the second accuser are not true.” Additional interviews with Joo Hyuk’s homeroom teachers and alumni were carried out, all of which argued Nam Joo Hyuk to be a good student.
The agency also firmly stated they would conduct legal measures against the rumors, “For this reason, our agency has determined that we have no choice but to respond strongly to both the first accuser and the second accuser in order to protect our actor’s reputation, and we plan to speedily file lawsuits against them.”
