“Money Heist: Korea” Jeon Jong-seo mentions her lover director Lee Chung-hyun, “He helped me a lot”

Jeon Jong-seo revealed that reviews by her boyfriend Lee Chung-hyun from his perspective as a director had a great influence on her work.

On the 30th of last month, Jeon Jong-seo answered a video interview and told various stories about Netflix’s original series “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”. Based on the Spanish series of the same name, “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” depicts an unprecedented hostage robbery performed by a genius strategist and robbers with different personalities and abilities in the reunified Korean Peninsula.

Jeon Jong-seo debuted with “Burning” and quickly rose to stardom after playing lead roles in “The Call”, “Nothing Serious”, etc. Apart from receiving recognition for her strong presence and brilliant acting skills, she also won Best Actress at the 57th Beaksang Arts Awards and the 30th Buil Film Awards. In “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”, Jeon Jong-seo took on the role of Tokyo, who blindly follows the plan of Professor (Yoo Ji-tae). Regarding her character, the actress shared, “It doesn’t look like any characters I’ve shown before”. In addition, director Kim Hong-sun once emphasized that the reason he cast Jeon Jong-seo for Tokyo was her theatrical and low voice tone.

She continued, “It’s my first time doing a work with more than three main cast actors”, adding, “I tried to blend in rather than stand out and lead the story. I hope the overall picture of ‘Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area’ will appeal to the viewers”. In order to portray the overall story perfectly, her chemistry with numerous actors on the filming set also helped bring good acting performances. In particular, Jeon Jong-seo expressed her extraordinary respect for Yoo Ji-tae, saying “I watched all of his works. I respect Yoo Ji-tae sunbaenim as an actor but I admire his personality. He’s really cool”.

It is inevitable that Jeon Jong-seo’s version of Tokyo has been compared to the original image in the Spanish series, which was so well-loved. Jeon Jong-seo acknowledged that and she tried to portray Tokyo in a completely different way in the Korean remake. Because of comparisons, “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” received divided reactions right after it was released on June 26th. Many viewers pointed out that the advantage of the Korean remake is its fast development but what left great regrets in them is the compressed narrative of the characters.

Jeon Jong-seo also told an anecdote about her lover, director Lee Chung-hyun. The two, who confirmed their romantic relationship in December last year, recently showed off their affection for each other through a lovestagram post. Their relationship began when Jeon Jong-seo starred in the feature film “The Call” directed by Lee Chung-hyun. Jeon Jong-seo shared, “When I received the scenario, director Lee Chung-hyun read it together with me. As a director, his perspective is different than mine. He gave me his reviews from his view as a director. Thinking about whether to appear in a work or not is the really important part. I’m getting a lot of help from him”.
