Man arrested for scamming money via K-pop fandom chat rooms 

After borrowing huge amounts of money from K-pop fans via chat rooms and not paying, a man was arrested.

Recently on June 2nd, a man in his 20s (hereinafter referred to as “A”) was arrested and temporarily detained for borrowing money from K-pop fans. It is known that he conversed with the victims via group chat rooms, and refused to pay back the borrowed money. 

According to prosecutors, from January 21st to May 12th, A has borrowed about 11.66 million won (around 9,000 USD) from a total of 17 victims, who are Kpop fans he met via group chat rooms.

The youngest victim is only 10 years old, while 2 victims are adults. 

In order to build trust with the victims, A initially borrowed 40,000 won (around 30 USD) from chat rooms of idols such as NCT and IVE, then returned them around 10,000 won as interest. 

Afterwards, when the victims demanded repayment of the principal debt, A told them to lend him more money and promised to pay it back immediately.
