MAMA 2022: Big gathering of well-known fourth-generation idols, few third-generation artists will be present?
MAMA Awards seems to be losing its appeal when few big stars from the previous generation confirm their appearance.
From 29th to 30th November, the annual large-scale pan-Asian event MAMA Awards are set to take place. It is usually an important event receiving much attention from K-pop fans. However, MAMA drew attention with a group and artist line-up that did not include any significant names from the third generation of K-pop.
This year’s MAMA is held in Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan with the capacity of up to 55 thousand audience. The award ceremony hopes to attract more than 100 thousand fans to the event.
Currently, 23 artists confirmed their performance at the MAMA Awards 2022:
- Day 1 (29th Nov): Stray Kids, TXT, JO1, Kep1er, HYOLYN, BIBI, Forestella, NMIXX, LE SSERAFIM, Street Man Fighter, KARA, DKZ.
- Day 2 (30th Nov): TREASURE, ENHYPEN, IVE, ITZY, Zico, Lim Young Woong, (G)I-DLE, NiziU, INI, NewJeans.
Nonetheless, famous third-generation idol groups do not seem to appear in the event with SM not sending representatives and YG not having BLACKPINK attend this MAMA event. However, Somi does join the ceremony as the host alongside Park Bogum.
J-Hope (BTS) is the most notable third-generation artist to appear in this year’s award show. While his performance schedule has not yet been released, MAMA revealed previously that his performance would be “a solo stage of history”.
Another performance stage that merits attention is the collaboration stage between top five fourth-generation girl groups namely IVE, Kep1er, NMIXX, NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM.
