Lee Young-ae’s Side Takes Legal Action Against YouTube Channel That Spreads Fake News

Actress Lee Young-ae sued the YouTube channel “Open Mind TV” for reporting fake news

On October 26th, Lee Young-ae’s agency Group Eight released an official position, saying “We filed a complaint with the Press Arbitration Commission against Jung Cheon-soo, who runs the YouTube channel ‘Open Mind TV’. We also filed civil and criminal complaints with Seoul Yongsan Police Station and the Western District Court against him on charges of violating the The Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection”.

According to Group Eight, “Open Mind TV” disparaged Lee Young-ae and spread fake news about the actress in videos uploaded on September 18th and October 16th.

The agency continued, “If Jung Cheon-soo of ‘Open Mind TV’ admitted to reporting fake news and apologized, Lee Young-ae would not have sued him’”, adding “Lee Young-ae has been waiting for an apology and the broadcast suspension for more than a month”.

Lee Young-ae’s side emphasized, “We believe that a true journalist would admit to their faults and honestly apologize if they reported something wrong. Lee Young-ae even asked her lawyer to drop the complaint if Jung Cheon-soo admitted to spreading fake news and sincerely apologized.”

Group Eight added, “Lee Young-ae expresses her regret that she had no choice but to take legal action and also apologizes for causing inconvenience to people who disagreed with the fundraising for the construction of Lee Seung-man Presidential Memorial Hall”.
