Korean Police Face Backlash Over G-Dragon’s Investigation

The investigation regarding G-Dragon’s drug accusations have lead to criticisms being directed at the Korean police.

“I just laughed and it ended”. This was what G-Dragon, who is under suspicion of drug use, said after being questioned by the police. If he is found guilty, it is a statement that could cause a tremendous storm, as it is basically his claim of innocence.

Previously on November 6, the Drug Crime Investigation Division of Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency’s questioned G-Dragon, who is under suspicion of drug offenses, as a suspect.

According to G-Dragon when he left the police station, he was questioned for four hours and received a negative result in a preliminary drug test. “I have also urgently requested a thorough examination. It would be good if the investigative agency can announce the results accurately and promptly.”

Then, against reporters’ questions about what aspects of the investigation were conducted, G-Dragon responded, “I just laughed and it ended”, before clarifying that he was only joking.

The male idol also replied, “I don’t think so. There wasn’t any”, when asked if there was any evidence presented by the police in the investigation

As a result, there have been criticisms that the police called G-Dragon with only statements from informants and the manager of an adult entertainment establishment, without clear physical evidence. Some even claimed that the police have become a subject of ridicule and backlash.

Previously, the court rejected a warrant to obtain G-Dragon’s call records from the police, as the criminal charges were not clearly proven.

At the same time, actor Lee Sun-kyun (48), who faces the same charges, also received negative results.

It thus remains to be seen how the police, who are in a difficult situation, will proceed with the investigation in the future.
