General K-pop fans strongly criticized the idol when she was crossing the line of appropriateness, especially when most of her fans are Asian.

In a snippet into a performance on the show, Jennie appeared with a dreadlock hairstyle, a cultural hairstyle of African Americans that is rooted in their cultural history. Therefore, it usually goes without saying that a non-African American is not allowed to have this hairstyle. Nonetheless, it is rising in popularity recently in K-pop.
After “The Idol” was aired, Jennie was embroiled in multiple controversies. The choreography Jennie did with other male dancers involved a lot of physical contacts, and the dance routines themselves were highly suggestive. The scandals drove fans away while drawing more negative criticisms toward her.
Not stopping there, the female rapper has been further embroiled in dating rumors with BTS V, which raises more hate after her controversial relationship with G-Dragon.
When confronted with the criticisms, Jennie grows thick skin and does what she wants to be herself. Nevertheless, it may take more time for the actress to be accepted by the public.
