Actor Jin Goo confirmed that he has nothing to do with A, who is accused of scamming Mom Cafe members of 60 billion won.
On July 18th, Jin Goo’s agency Baro Entertainment released a statement, saying “Jin Goo met A several times because they have mutual acquaintances”, adding “However, the actor has never participated in any activities nor business relationships with A.”
They firmly explained, “Regarding the fraud of the mentioned person, Jin Goo also knew about it through the media and has never been contacted by them.”
Earlier on the same day, TV Daily reported that Jin Goo had a connection with A. The media claimed that actor Park Hyo Joon introduced Jin Goo to A and they often visited A’s residence in Songdo, Incheon.
On June 26th, the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office’s Criminal Division 5 arrested and indicted A, the operator of Mom Cafe, on several charges, including the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud), etc.
A is accused of earning 14.2 billion won in bribes from 61 individuals while operating the online community Mom Cafe from November 2019 to September last year. They also face charges of illegally collecting 46.4 billion won through similar fraudulent practices, such as using gift vouchers as bait.
Among the victims, broadcaster Hyun Young became embroiled in the controversy after transferring 500 million won to A’s voucher fraudulent investment scheme. A seduced Hyun Young by promising that they would give the broadcast a monthly interest rate of 7% for six months. Hyun Young actually received 35 million won per month for 5 months as interest on the 500 million won investment.
However, A did not return the principal to Hyun Young, making her suffer a total loss of 325 million won. As a result, Hyun Young sued A on charges of committing loan fraud.
Hyun Young’s side stated, “Hyun Young is a victim of fraud by A, the operator of Mom Cafe”. They emphasized, “Hyun Young has never been a member of that Mom Cafe. She has never interacted with other Mom Cafe members nor made recommendations for investment.”
