Famous Male Singer Adds Strength To Cultural Artists Association’ Requests Regarding Lee Sun-kyun’s Case

On January 14th, Lee Seung-hwan uploaded a photo on his SNS account with the caption, “I made the ‘Demands of cultural artists facing the death of the late actor Lee Sun-kyun’ statement into an image”.

The singer compiled six pages of the statement released by the Association of Cultural Artists into an image file.

In addition, the male singer mourned the late actor Lee Sun-kyun, saying “You can share it without citing the source if you want to give your support”, adding “It’s late to say this but I hope Lee Sun-kyun rest in peace”.

Earlier, various cultural artists, such as directors Bong Joon-ho and Jang Hang-joon, actor Kim Eui-sung, and singer Yoon Jong-shin, held a press conference on January 12 to demand a thorough investigation into the truth of Lee Sun-kyun’s case and urging clarification of the investigation process. They called for a thorough investigation by authorities into the truth of the Lee Sun-kyun case, deletion of articles that violate journalistic ethics, and amendment of current laws to protect the human rights of cultural and artistic figures.

In particular, Director Bong Joon-ho demanded a thorough investigation into the related personnel from the moment internal information about the deceased’s investigation was first leaked to the public until Lee Sun-kyun’s extreme choice.

Meanwhile, Kim Eui-sung pointed out that despite receiving a negative result in the precise drug test, Lee Sun-kyun underwent three police investigations, all of which were broadcast live by the media. The actor also criticized the release of a recording file that is difficult to confirm. Finally, Yoon Jong-shin said that it is inappropriate for the media to violate personal privacy of the deceased just because he was a public figure. He expressed the hope for the speedy deletion of article content that does not fit the purpose of public interest reporting.

On the other hand, Lee Sun-kyun, who had been under investigation by the police since his drug suspicion arose in October last year, was found dead in a parked car near a park in Seoul on December 27 of the same year.

After Lee Sun-kyun’s death, there have been criticisms about the media’s exposure of his private life, which has little relevance to the drug allegations, and police actions such as public summoning. With Lee Sun-kyun’s death, the police plan to close the investigation with “no right to indict.”
