Jennie’s Past Restaurant Controversy Resurfaces Amid Vaping Allegations

An old controversy of BLACKPINK’s Jennie is garnering attention again as the female idol got criticized over vaping allegations.

On July 8, indoor vaping allegations were raised against BLACKPINK’s Jennie. The issue stemmed from a scene in a vlog released on July 2 by her independent label, Odd Atelier (OA).

The vlog showed Jennie preparing for an event with the help of her staff. In the video, Jennie appears to be smoking vape in close proximity to her makeup artist. Some fans argued that what Jennie held was not vape but a vitamin inhaler or diffuser, but this is so far not confirmed.

Born in 1996, Jennie is an adult, and smoking is her choice. However, indoor smoking can be legally problematic in South Korea and also in the location of the vlog, which is suspected to be Capri Island, Italy. Additionally, the main issue is that Jennie exhaled smoke near staff members, causing them to inhale secondhand smoke.

This indoor smoking controversy has also brought back the “Gopchang Restaurant” incident from five years ago. At the time, Jennie was accused of parking illegally and asking staff to cook gopchang, which is usually cooked by customers.

At that time, a famous gopchang restaurant owner shared the story on SBS Power FM’s “Bae Sung-jae’s Ten.” The owner recounted how Jennie’s manager said it was okay to get a parking ticket, and Jennie requested the staff to cook the food for her. The owner later realized the customer was Jennie from BLACKPINK.

This anecdote of the restaurant owner led to accusations of “power abuse” against Jennie at the time. Now, coupled with the indoor vaping incident, criticisms are intensifying as people even attack Jennie’s character.
