Is ex-(G)I-DLE’s Soojin breaking the silence a sign of her return to the entertainment industry?

A year after withdrawing from (G)I-DLE, Soojin expressed her position on allegations of school violence.

Former (G)I-DLE member Soojin finally broke the silence more than a year after leaving the group. Through her legal representative, Soojin revealed her position on the court’s decision not to implement any charges on the parties who accused her of bullying and the direction of her future response. After seemingly having left the entertainment industry by withdrawing from (G)I-DLE and ending her contract with Cube Entertainment, Soojin suddenly spoke up. This has drawn attention to her intentions.

Last year, Soojin stopped her activities due to allegations of school violence during her middle school days, and eventually left both (G)I-DLE and Cube Entertainment. At first, Soojin and Cube completely denied the allegations, but as the controversy grew bigger with actress Seo Shin Ae coming forward to claim that she and other classmates were victims of Soojin’s bullying, Soojin came under heavy criticism and temporarily halted her activities.

In the early stage of the controversy, Cube insisted on protecting Soojin and even submitted a complaint against her first accuser and malicious commenters. It was expected that the truth would come out quickly, but there was no proper investigation.

Soojin quietly withdrew from (G)I-DLE in August of last year, three years after her debut, amid worsening public opinion. At that time, she was believed to remain an artist under Cube, giving fans hope that she would make a comeback. However, in March, Cube officially announced the termination of their exclusive contract with Soojin. Since then, she has practically disappeared from the entertainment industry.

Even after leaving (G)I-DLE and Cube one after another, Soojin stayed silent. It was on September 8th, 2022, that she finally broke the long silence through her legal representative. Soojin reiterated that “the allegations of school violence are not true” and posted an apology for her controversy.

Regarding the court’s recent decision on not implementing any charges against the first accuser, Soojin’s legal representative explained, “The police decided not to appeal the case because it could be true from the point of view of the informer and there could be no intention of falsehood. We decided not to proceed with the legal process, as in this situation, there is no evidence to confirm the truth other than personal statements from the opposing parties.”

In addition, Soojin’s side also expressed her reason for the new statement. According to the female idol, she was cautious about posting such an announcement, but the least she could do is to courageously speak to fans who have supported her, as well as those who have been hurt and displeased with her actions.

“Seo Soojin is very keenly aware that there is an emotional wound on the exposer’s side regardless of the truthfulness of their claims. We offer our sincere apologies to all those who were emotionally hurt by her words and actions in middle school, as well as to the fans who have cared for Seo Soojin”, her legal representation stated.

A lot of attention was paid to Soojin’s position, which was revealed after about a year. As the female idol withdrew from her group instantly amid the controversial issue of school violence, people were curious as to why Soojin only spoke up now, after a long silence. Some even speculated that she was trying to get rid of the “school violence controversy” tag in order to resume activities in the entertainment industry, as with many other cases.

In fact, former AOA member Jimin, who left her group after she was accused of bullying former member Mina, recently overcame her past and started anew, so there is still the possibility that Soojin will follow a similar path.

So far, however, there doesn’t seem to be any sign of Soojin making a comeback. It remains to be seen whether the female idol’s move will precede the resumption of her entertainment promotions.
