HYBE Girl Group Accused of “Stealing” Choreography without Credit

On February 7, famous choreographer tKelly Sweeney published a video titled “this K-pop group used my choreography move for move and gave no credit” on her TikTok account, which has over 890,000 followers.

The video shows a comparison of a recent dance practice video of HYBE’s upcoming girl group I’LL-IT, alongside Kelly Sweeney’s own choreography, which bear extremely strong resemblance.

As a an artist and choreographer, someone who devotes their life to creating original moves and does this as a living, it’s very frustrating to see people take your steps without any credit. As flattered as I am that they liked it so much as to learn it and do it for their video, it’s NEVER okay to plagiarize and not give credit. Especially when you’re a group of artists. Please do better @HBL #kellysweeneychoreo

It is known that I’LL-IT’s video never gave any credit to Kelly Sweeney, prompting the choreographer to make the video and added the caption, “As a an artist and choreographer, someone who devotes their life to creating original moves and does this as a living, it’s very frustrating to see people take your steps without any credit. As flattered as I am that they liked it so much as to learn it and do it for their video, it’s NEVER okay to plagiarize and not give credit. Especially when you’re a group of artists.”.

So far, Kelly Sweeney’s accusation video has attracted over 1.4 million views on TikTok, and fans are sending mass emails to HYBE and I’LL-IT’s agency, Belift Lab, in hope of a response.

As I’LL-IT are making their debut in the near future, many fans are worried that the controversy will leave a negative impact on the group’s name, especially after the group already lost one major member
