Prosecution Demands Harsher Punishment for Male Idol who Committed Sexual Assault

On February 7, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office announced that they had filed an appeal against the first trial ruling of former B.A.P’s Himchan, who faced charges of raping one woman and sexually assaulting two others.

In particular, the male idol was sentenced to 10 months in prison in the first trial and received the same sentence in the second trial, but prosecution is demanding a harsher punishment of three years of imprisonment and five years of probation.

According to the prosecution, the fact that Himchan utilized his victim’s fan spirit, threatened and assaulted the victim and illegally filmed her, and committed other crimes again while undergoing trial for a similar offense, should be taken in consideration.

On the other hand, Himchan was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s at a pension in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, on July 24, 2018. In February 2021, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison in the first trial regarding this case.

However, later on in April 2022, he was accused of sexually assaulting one Korean woman and one foreign woman at a bar in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. At the time, Himchan admitted to all charges and appealed for leniency after reaching a settlement agreement with the victims and paying them a total of 10 million won. Additionally, in May 2022, he was charged with sexually assaulting another woman in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, adding a third sexual offense charge.

Meanwhile, Himchan debuted in the music industry as part of the boy group B.A.P in 2012. B.A.P effectively disbanded in August 2018 when two members left the group, and the remaining members’ exclusive contracts with their former agency expired the following year.
