Former IZ*ONE Member Criticized for “Lazy Dancing”, Defended by Netizens

As one of the standout contestants from the Mnet survival show “Produce 48”, Kang Hye-won secured 8th place overall and debuted as part of the lineup for girl group IZ*ONE. However, unlike IVE’s Jang Wonyoung and Ahn Yujin, LE SSERAFIM’s Kim Chaewon, as well as Lee Chaeyeon, Kwon Eunbi, and Choi Yena, who are actively promoting as idols, Kang Hye-won chose an acting path after IZ*ONE disbanded.

Recently, she held a fan meeting that attracted a large number of fans. However, from this event, Kang Hye-won faced criticism.

In particular, at the fan meeting, Hye-won brought back her idol image by covering recent hit songs such as “Drama” by aespa, “Super Shy” by NewJeans, and “Underwater” by former group member Kwon Eunbi. Although these were simply fun dance performances to make the fan meeting more enjoyable, Hye-won faced many malicious comments.

So far, many anti-fans have flooded Kang Hye-won’s dance cover videos with comments calling her as “lazy” and “not putting effort into dancing.” Some even mocked her appearance and body movements, or even brought up past criticisms about Kang Hye-won’s “stiff expressions” in IZ*ONE.

A lot of fans are thus upset at the “unfair negativity” directed at Kang Hye-won, who has not promoted as an idol for a long time. According to fans, it is natural that the idol-actress is not going all out since the dance segment is just meant to be for fun, and explained that Hye-won has been out of practice.

It’s unfair to assess the dance skills of a former idol who is focusing on her acting career, said fans.

In addition, many non-fans are also defending Kang Hye-won against the “lazy dancing accusations”, agreeing that it’s unfair to judge her abilities based on fun dance covers, especially now that she’s working as an actress.
