The monthly income of AfreecaTV’s popular BJ Kim Si Won is drawing attention.
According to a recent tally by AfreecaTV star balloon statistics site Poong Today, BJ Kim Si Won received 7,226,023 star balloons in June. It amounts to about 800 million won (794.86 million won) in cash. The “star balloon” used on AfreecaTV is a cashable item that fans give to BJs. Depending on the activity level, 60~80% belong to BJs.
Kim Si Won, who debuted in 2012 as girl group GLAM’s member Dahee, was accused of threatening actor Lee Byung Hun in 2014. She was charged with blackmailing the actor for 5 billion won.
On January 15th, 2015, the Seoul District Court sentenced Dahee to 1 year in prison. On March 26th, 2015, the Seoul District Court, under Lee Byung Hun’s request, gave Dahee a two-year suspended sentence instead of 1-year prison sentence.
After transforming into an AfreecaTV BJ in 2018, she gained great popularity and even won the AfreecaTV BJ Grand Prize last year. She is communicating with viewers through various contents such as song dance cover, eating broadcast, joint room, cover makeup and vlog.
Meanwhile, AfreecaTV is recording a remarkably high operating profit. In particular, the sales of star balloons in the second quarter of 2023 were 62.7 billion won, the highest quarterly performance ever.
Popular BJs such as BJ Kim Si Won, Commander ZICO and Namsoon are known to be earning billions~hundreds of millions of won every month.
BJ Commander ZICO, which ranked first in income in June~July, earned about 4.923 billion won and 2.867 billion won each month alone.
