Former SM CEO Lee Soo Man Conducts Teen Idol Auditions in China, a New Start as Producer?

After leaving SM, Lee Soo Man is currently conducting auditions in Beijing, China, to discover teenage idols.

According to exclusive coverage by TenAsia on July 10th, Lee Soo Man, former CEO of SM Entertainment, is currently in Beijing, China, conducting auditions for teenage idols. Kim Han Goo, a close associate of Lee Soo Man and known as an information source for the Chinese region, is also participating in this schedule.

Lee Soo Man is discovering new K-pop idol talents in the Chinese market, embarking on a new start as a producer. Recent reports reveal that Lee Soo Man has established an office in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, indicating the beginning of his activities after leaving SM. 

Additionally, pictures of himself with SM producer Yoo Young Jin taken at Hong Kong Airport were also posted online and gained attention. 

A music industry official related to this matter stated, “Lee Soo Man has had a great interest in the Chinese market for a long time, and he is currently staying in Beijing.

Previously, Lee Soo Man sold his 14.8% stake in SM for a total of 430 billion KRW, at 120,000 KRW per share, and stepped down from SM.

In a letter addressed to the media following this, Lee Soo Man stated, “SM, founded under my name, closes a chapter in history today. I always dream. Kwangya was my new dream. As always, I move towards the future. K-pop must now evolve into global music, going beyond K-pop and embracing the world.” 

He again emphasized the concept of “global music” and said, “I am currently overseas. I am fully immersed in the world of global music.
