Fans Angered as J.Y. Park Makes Candid Comment about GOT7 Post-Departure from JYP

J.Y. Park recently opened up about his sentiments regarding GOT7

Debuting in 2014 under JYP Entertainment, GOT7 spent seven years with the company until 2021 when their exclusive contracts came to an end.

Following their exit from JYP, all members moved to new agencies but the group didn’t disband. GOT7 released an album together despite the members being under different agencies.

Towards the end of their stay at JYP, GOT7’s fans repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction with the company in general and J.Y. Park in particular, citing various issues such as mismanagement of schedules, a lack of social media presence, and no actions to deal with sasaeng fans.

During J.Y. Park’s recent guest appearance on BamBam’s YouTube show Bam House, BamBam posed a question to J.Y. Park, “What kind of singer was GOT7 to you?”

In response, J.Y. Park said, “I feel like GOT7 are artists who haven’t fully showcased just how special they are— not quite yet. You guys have been doing great so far, but still, it’s less sufficient compared to what you have. You know it yourselves. There are so many more special things you’re capable of.

While this might be interpreted as J.Y. Park expressing his belief in the group’s latent potential, it didn’t sit well with fans who feel GOT7 was restricted under JYP and J.Y. Park’s management.

Expressing frustration on X, fans voiced their discontent with J.Y. Park’s remark:

  • “GOT7 had everything—talent, personality, visuals. They lacked nothing. The only one holding them back from being ‘special’ is JYP’s narcissistic self.”
  • “The reason why fans are pissed at JYP: GOT7 didn’t have an official Spotify account until 2017. GOT7 wasn’t allowed to create their own songs. Fans had to plead with U.S. labels to handle the distribution of GOT7’s albums because, for some reason, JYP could do it for other groups but not for GOT7. And the list goes on.”
  • “He basically said GOT7 was great but not enough. How could he? Like you’re the one who didn’t promote GOT7 well, didn’t do anything to properly showcase their potentials and talents.”
  • “Talking as if he wasn’t the one holding GOT7 back. Just shut up.”
