Famous Youtuber who releases videos of drug offenders’ arrests is investigated by the police on charges of blackmailing

The YouTuber who became famous by filming drug crime arrests was caught exchanging videos for money.

According to YTN on April 24th, the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency is investigating Youtuber A in his 20s who often reports drug crimes on charges of blackmailing and violating the Narcotics Control Act.

A is accused of threatening to reveal videos of the arrest process of three drug offenders if they did not give A money. A is alleged to have extorted approximately 2 million won from one of the drug offenders.

A is known as a Youtuber who finds suspected drug offenders through SNS and assistants. In fact, A seduced the drug offenders to take drugs, made appointments, suddenly raided the scene while filming then handed them over to the police.

As the videos of the drug offenders’ arrests drew keen attention, A even appeared in media interviews. 

The police recently launched an investigation after receiving a report that “A demanded money from drug offenders before uploading their arrest videos”. Therefore, they also executed a search warrant on the 23rd to secure electronic records related to the case from A’s residence.

A police official said, “We plan to confirm the facts through the analysis of the seized materials”.

Earlier, Asia Today reported that the YouTuber who reported and exposed drug crimes was sent to the prosecution on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. The Youtuber got caught by the police on charges of advertising drugs through open chat rooms.

A police official said to the media, “Even if it is for the public interest, no one is allowed to advertise drugs or engage in any other behavior related to drugs according to relevant laws and regulations”, adding “We concluded the investigation last month and already sent the case to the prosecution.”
